Master of Science in Financial Management

National minimum entry requirements as specified by HETAC for a Master’s programme, that is, an honours primary degree (Level 8 or equivalent), are in force. This degree must be in business, accounting or related disciplines. In particular, applicants must have a sound understanding of basic economic theory and principles.

This is a post-graduate course for business practitioners who are able to  learn from and add value to the course through sharing their own business experience. Accordingly, this course is not designed for graduates who have recently (within 2 years) completed an undergraduate degree, but for graduates who are able to reflect on their own experience as a business practitioner.

Ideally, applicants will be professionally qualified or part-qualified accountants or related financial professionals. Applicants without the minimum educational qualification will be considered on the basis of their experience, other qualifications, potential to contribute to the programme and interview performance and will be subject to HETAC regulations. All such candidates will be interviewed, by telephone or in person, and may be required to undergo a selection test. All students accepted for this programme must undergo a pre-college preparatory course, which has been designed to help students find out more about the e-learning experience and to familiarise themselves with the particular skill set required to be successful e-learners.  This course comprises IT skills, online learning and study skills.

Holders of a Level 7 qualification may apply for entry to the programme through the recognition of prior learning. The College will assess such applications on an individual basis. Applicants will be required to submit a portfolio of evidence demonstrating their learning and achievement to a Level 8 standard. As all tuition and examinations at Hibernia College are conducted through English, prospective students whose mother tongue is not English will need to demonstrate that they have sufficient language skills to cope with the academic demands of their course and benefit fully from their period of study.

Acceptable English language credentials include:

• IELTS (International English Language Testing System), minimum score of 6.5 including a  minimum of 6.0 in academic English
• TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) paper based test, minimum score of 600 including a minimum of 475 in written English
• TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) Internet based test, minimum score of 94 including a minimum of 24 in written English
• CSE English, Grade 1 Pass
• GCE ‘O’ Level English Language, minimum Grade C
• GCSE English Language, minimum Grade C
• Hong Kong Certificate in Education, English Language Syllabus B, minimum Grade C
• Irish Leaving Certificate English, minimum Ordinary Level D3
• Joint Matriculation Board (JMB) Test in English (Overseas) Examination, Pass
• University of Cambridge ESOL Examinations, Proficiency: minimum Grade C, Advanced: minimum Grade B
