Hibernia College has recently collaborated with Canterbury Christ Church University in the UK to create iTeach, an online training programme for second level teachers of maths, physics and chemistry in England. The programme, funded by the UK government’s Training & Development Agency (TDA), was developed to address the current shortage of maths and science teachers in England by providing a more flexible and adaptable path to becoming a fully qualified teacher.
The flexible nature of the iTeach programme will enable participants to structure their lessons and study around their current commitments. This makes it very attractive to those already working in schools (eg existing science teachers, learning support assistants and higher level teaching assistants) and also those currently working in other fields who may wish to train as teachers.
Key features of iTeach include:
- Minimum of 18 months to complete
- Includes 14-24 weeks of classroom teaching practice
- Course delivered online and through live virtual tutorials
- Ongoing continuous assessments
- Participants fully funded by the TDA
- Suitable for practising educators as well as those wishing to enter the teaching profession.
