New Centre for Restorative Justice
Hibernia College is delighted to announce the establishment of a new Centre for Restorative Justice. The CRJ will offer courses and services for civil dispute resolution and in particular, mediation.
The Centre’s remit will, over time, also extend to various aspects of criminal dispute resolution and in this regard quarterly research papers relating to restorative justice in its many forms will be published. Through active research the CRJ will strive to be at the coal face of developments in this expanding arena.
Mediation expertise will also be available through a panel of Ireland’s top Mediators across the private, corporate and governmental sectors. The Centre for Restorative Justice will act as a hub for mediation and dispute resolution providing an invaluable alternative to both in-house disputes and external litigation in a cost effective and time efficient manner.

Hibernia College wins UK Learning Innovation Grant
As part of a consortium, Hibernia College has recently won a prestigious Learning Innovation Grant (LIG), which is funded by the Learning and Skills Council (LSC) and delivered by the Association of Learning Providers (ALP) in the UK. The Learning Innovation Grant provides capital investment to exploit the use of technology in learning and management in order to improve the learners’ experience, leading to improved learner retention, motivation and achievement.
Hibernia College has secured this grant in order to create quality, engaging electronic content which will facilitate the establishment of an e-enabled teacher training service in the Further Education sector. This content will enable teachers to receive qualifications up to a Diploma in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector (DTLLS).
This project will improve and increase the qualified teacher capacity and competency in the Further Education sector and will also facilitate experienced practitioners wishing to transition into teaching from other sectors by offering a flexible approach available at a time and place convenient to the learner. In the absence of a specific qualification in this sector in Ireland, this award might also appeal to teachers working in VECs and also to a wide range of trainers in workplace settings.
